Portpatrick has much to offer the visitor; friendly restaurants and bars, antique and craft shops, stunning sunsets, angling, boat charters, two well-stocked shops (both with ATM's), cliff top walks, two golf courses and a regular bus service into Stranraer. The nearby Dunskey Gardens will delight the horticulturist with its walled garden, woods & tearoom. The Southern Upland Way also starts & ends at Portpatrick. |
The coastline here also provides plenty of angling spots from the rocks (caution advised) and also provides a home to much wildlife - from seabirds to seals. Perhaps you want a day out with a difference? Why not catch the high speed HSS Voyager from Stranraer to Belfast (90 minutes crossing) and enjoy a day at the shops, zoo or numerous other attractions that great city has to offer? |

Food-lovers will be delighted with the local restaurants. The Downshire Arms, The Crown Hotel, The Waterfront Hotel, The Harbour House Hotel and the Mount Stewart Hotel all offer good food, whilst the very popular Campbell's Restaurant specialises in seafood dishes. (Booking is advisable due to demand!) Slightly further afield one can visit the award winning Logan Botanic Gardens at Port Logan (the village was featured in the television series '2000 Acres Of Sky' as Ronansay - with Portpatrick harbour providing the backdrop for filming 'on the mainland'.) or the amazing gardens and outstanding terrace restaurant at Glenwhan, or visit Castle Kennedy Gardens (home to the Galloway Garden Festival, now in its second year) with its varied levels and lochs. In the town of Stranraer there is Baxter's Craft Shop - which offers a very good range of arts and crafts - and also Gallery34, for prints, original artwork (much of it featuring local scenes) and gifts |
